I had a client comment to me that they were doing a lot of telephone consults to patients that have tested positive for Covid 19 or were in contact with someone who had Covid 19. The client indicated that they were spending quite a bit of time to discuss measures for treatment, discussing proper procedures, etc. I informed them that CMS added some codes that allow for phone visits with patients. Those codes are 99441 5-10 minutes, 99442 11-20 minutes, and 99443 21+ minutes. You would use place of service 11 with a modifier 95. With the overwhelming load that providers are facing now during this pandemic, CMS has tried to make sure that providers are able to assist patients with their medical issues. Telemedicine is another avenue that can be used. Many means can be used to accommodate patients. Many providers are using Doxy.me and other programs to assist with a televisit. CMS has advised to use the E&M codes you would use for a regular office visit (99202-99215) with place of service as 11 with modifier 95.
